Systems Engineer

Title: Systems Engineer

As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for initial high-level system design including general electrical systems and plant generation modeling for large PV projects. You will be involved with projects at the early stage of development and continually contribute refinements as pricing, site feasibility, electrical and interconnection designs evolve This position will be part of the Systems group working closely with other groups including Business Development, Engineering and Operations, as well as field testing, and project performance testing. JUWI is looking for a candidate who maintains a professional attitude with a background in electrical engineering who has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform initial system design & optimization and act as an internal point of contact for assigned project design technical details.
  • Work with Business Development group to support technical and performance aspects required to respond to RFP opportunities.
  • Contribute to generation modeling improvement and collaborate with team members for accuracy and optimization.
  • Contribute to operating plant forecast and performance reporting systems.
  • Provide financing technical support for generation models and performance guarantees while contributing new ideas and innovative methods.
  • Support system optimization efforts by critically analyzing current designs, equipment selection, specifications, and plant performance.
  • Deliver performance guarantee analysis.
  • Provide operating plant performance testing and troubleshooting technical input if underperformance is identified or suspected.
  • Generate creative cost reduction/design improvements for application into new projects or test facilities.
  • Stay current on latest design tools, methods, and cost reduction measures offered or deployed in the industry.
  • Develop automated internal tools for improved design efficiency and performance.
  • Oversee, deploy, and maintain prospector weather station equipment and contribute to its design and data acquisition method.
  • Support on-going equipment testing on site and remotely, propose and support the testing and qualification of new equipment.
  • Contribute to long term engineering and operating plant research and apply lessons learned to latest designs.

 

Qualifications:

  • A solid understanding of solar and electrical engineering, production modeling and power generation principles
  • Highly developed understanding and application of solar modeling methods including PVSYST, SAM, PVCase, SolarGIS, or similar.
  • Experience processing, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and analyze complex situations.
  • Accredited university degree (electrical engineering preferred) and 5 or more years of PV plant engineering.
  • Strong computer skills, including software tools such as Matlab, Python, data acquisition systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  The ability to efficiently deliver information through whatever means best suits the situation, individual and role.
  • Be familiar with the quality assurance requirements necessary in an electrical and instrumentation installation environment.
  • The foresight, awareness, and ability to take the first steps to advance toward a goal, solve a problem, and/or pursue a new idea with or without direct guidance.
  • Possess exemplary standards of honor, safety, management, ethics, quality, and productivity.

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with utility scale interconnection process or grid network modelling.
  • Master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Awareness of NERC requirements and design implementation.

Construction Site Manager

JUWI is looking for an experienced individual who will have demonstrated leadership and excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. The Construction Site Manager will be responsible for managing, executing and supervising all construction activities on an assigned JUWI project site. The Construction Site Manager will provide management discipline, direction, supervision and leadership for the project. Work to be located at assigned project site(s) in North America.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Work fluently with and support assigned Project Manager.
  • Support the completion of preliminary engineering, detailed specifications and construction and supply contracts.
  • Monitor and oversee all civil, structural, mechanical and electrical work on the project to ensure it meets contractual obligations; maintain a hands-on approach to training, quality assurance and supporting sub-contractors’ in-field work efforts.
  • Review and be familiar with vendor requirements and assure that equipment is installed in a manner so as not to void warranties.
  • Take proactive lead position in learning specific technical details for solar PV project racking installation details.
  • Contribute to the development of construction plans and schedules.
  • Maintain strong presence in front of sub-contractor(s), supporting and managing sub-contractors execution of work while maintain JUWI’s high quality standards.
  • Manage project construction activities, ensuring Honor, Teamwork, Quality, Schedule, Cost, Safety, Environmental and Landowner requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure all quality assurance programs are fully administered and complied with.
  • Complete final testing of installed project components; coordinate start-up and commissioning of plant with Commissioning Specialists.
  • Direct the execution of work in accordance with approved contracts and ensure compliance.
  • Provide a safe and secure project site for all project participants.
  • Develop effective relationships with contractors, suppliers, landowners and the community.
  • Develop effective and supportive relationships with colleagues.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to subordinate staff.

Electrical Superintendent

JUWI is looking for an experienced individual who will have demonstrated excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. The Electrical Superintendent will be responsible for the in-field leadership, guidance and inspection of the electrical installation and interconnection activities for JUWI projects; inspection of all phases of the project electrical construction effort including, but not limited to, the interconnection substation, the project substation, substation interfaces, transmission line interconnections, electrical terminations, SCADA installation, and collection cable installation. Identify and immediately remedy deficiencies noted during field inspections of the project. Work to be located at assigned project site(s) in North America.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Reporting to the project and/or construction manager, organize and field manage electrical portion of large-scale solar projects while implementing measures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitor all electrical work, specifically installation and testing, on the project to ensure it meets contract obligations.
  • Run site crew(s) from 70,000-150,000 man-hours.
  • Supervise in-field general foreman/foreman with total responsibility of over 80+ employees.
  • Through managing the team, deliver against the highest standards for daily production, installation methodology, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Help recruit, train, and develop foreman, journeyman, and apprentices.
  • Maintain a constant focus on safety.
  • Provide technical and practical field input into the engineering and construction management teams’ efforts. Gain in-depth understanding of JUWI’s major system components with particular emphasis on the modules, cabling and inverters.
  • Support engineering and confirm designs are suitable and cost effective for field installation, including any requested field or engineering directed changes; analyze and suggest areas of ongoing system design improvement, provide clear responses to the engineering group for in-field requested design changes.
  • Become familiar with all project engineering and design document and JUWI’s Project Procedure Manual.
  • Conduct daily field inspections of the work in progress, log and remedy (if required) results of inspections and QC procedures. Assist with performing audits per electrical QA plan.
  • Immediately report any safety deficiencies identified during field inspections to the On-Site Safety and Construction Site Manager.
  • While on-site, become completely familiar with the project plan, schedule, and plan of the day.
  • Anticipate and avoid or minimize potential problems by maintaining current knowledge of overall project status and assist in resolution of differences or problems.
  • Ensure documentation is complete for all areas of responsibility and provide updates as needed to input progress on the project plan.

 

Qualifications:

  • Accredited university degree or technical school diploma with applicable on job training.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability and desire to mentor less experience team members.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability and excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.

In this role, you’ll:

  • The Site Quality Control Manager will conduct assessment of company policies and procedures to improve, develop and maintain in-house quality procedures and plans.
  • Collaborating with subcontractor’s quality personnel to implement procedures, systems, and standard operation.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance standards to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Conduct quality audits to make sure set quality policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Establish procedures and processes for sampling, recording and reporting of quality data.

Site Safety Manager

JUWI is looking for an experienced individual who will have demonstrated leadership and excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. The Site Safety Manager works under the general supervision of the EH&S Compliance Manager and will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of job site safety for JUWI construction projects. The Site Safety Manager will work with Subcontractor safety representatives and the entire JUWI construction team in order to ensure project construction is conducted in a safe manner, in accordance with all applicable State and Federal regulations, the JUWI Safe Work Practices, and JUWI safety policies and procedures. Work to be located at assigned project site(s) in North America.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Provide technical and practical input regarding safety in all aspects of project construction
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Regulations
  • Ensure compliance with JUW safety policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with the JUWI Health and Safety Compliance Manager to ensure site safety deliverables are met
  • Coordinate with local emergency and first responders
  • Conduct daily site safety walkthroughs to identify deficiencies or best practices
  • Immediately correct unsafe actions or conditions
  • Work with JUWI’s procurement group and the JUWI Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager to facilitate the delivery and maintain an inventory of all safety and testing equipment on site
  • Manage the safety orientation program
  • Coordinate with Site Security on accountability, access and safety
  • Manage all site safety documentation, including Job Hazard Analyses, daily Tailboards, qualification forms and permits
  • Oversee the lift planning and execution of all crane operations
  • Implement the JUWI Lock Out Tag Out plan
  • Ensure hazardous material is properly labeled, stored, handled and disposed of according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Facilitate the site drug testing program
  • Conduct site safety inspections
  • Ensure compliance with the JUWI Spill Prevention, Countermeasures and Control plan
  • Conduct safety training on-site as required
  • Be familiar with the project plan, schedule, and plan of the day
  • Support the Site Manager in all safety matters

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (technical degree preferred)
  • 3-5 years of safety experience

  • OSHA 30 Hour for Construction Certificate preferred, OSHA 500 series courses preferred

$85,000-$105,000

Civil Engineer

Title: Civil Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO

Reports to: Senior Civil Engineer

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. We are bringing multiple utility scale solar power projects online over the next several years and seeking a Civil Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll execute JUWI’s civil design activities such as guiding the civil design approach of JUWI’s projects, selecting external consulting engineering firms, reviewing consultants’ work, while interacting with and supporting the Engineering, Project Development, and Construction teams at all stages of project completion. The Civil Engineer is a multi-faceted position requiring a capable professional with demonstrated experience in large-scale civil design and consultant management and you will have guidance and support from the Senior Civil Engineer as a mentor.

In this role, you’ll:

Project Development

  • Participate in site selection and layout while considering environmental, geotechnical, and civil risks.
  • Generate development, civil design, and construction budgets.
  • Evaluate site studies and project schedules.
  • Perform preliminary design and calculations for grading, drainage, erosion control and access road design.
  • Work with the Racking group regarding racking layout and project design, considering topography, access, soil characteristics and site geometry.
  • Incorporate Systems and Development Engineering groups’ generation optimization inputs influenced by slope, azimuth, and grading costs.

 

Consultant Selection and Management

  • Organize development of land surveying, civil and geotechnical engineer design consultants Scope of Work for all projects.
  • Manage external land surveying consultants on the creation of boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, aerial and topographic surveys, easements, and stakeout requirements for all projects.
  • Manage external geotechnical engineering consultants for project earthwork, foundation design, soil reports, utility crossings, etc.
  • Assist civil designers and review plans for compliance with JUWI and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist in the development of Scope of Work for civil construction subcontractor agreements.
  • Review submittals and respond to requests for information from civil subcontractors.

 

Permitting

  • Research and apply jurisdiction-specific civil design requirements for site plans and civil construction drawings.
  • Apply for and maintain local, state and federal permitting efforts.
  • Evaluate roads adjacent to job site for use before, during and after construction.

 

Travel to Job Sites

  • Work with Construction team members in overseeing civil subcontractor on-site performance.
  • Travel to potential and active projects to assist development and construction teams.

 

Ensure JUWI’s high-quality, safe, and cost-effective design in all aspects of project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • 4-10 years of civil design experience
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Knowledge of national civil design codes and requirements (ASTM, ACI, MUTCD, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% – 20% and work flexible hours
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and organize work in an independent manner
  • A team player with the desire to grow professionally
