Systems Engineer

Title: Systems Engineer

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Systems Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for initial high-level system design including general electrical systems and plant generation modeling for large PV projects. You will be involved with projects at the early stage of development and continually contribute refinements as pricing, site feasibility, electrical and interconnection designs evolve This position will be part of the Systems group working closely with other groups including Business Development, Engineering and Operations, as well as field testing, and project performance testing. JUWI is looking for a candidate who maintains a professional attitude with a background in electrical engineering who has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform initial system design & optimization and act as an internal point of contact for assigned project design technical details.
  • Work with Business Development group to support technical and performance aspects required to respond to RFP opportunities.
  • Contribute to generation modeling improvement and collaborate with team members for accuracy and optimization.
  • Contribute to operating plant forecast and performance reporting systems.
  • Provide financing technical support for generation models and performance guarantees while contributing new ideas and innovative methods.
  • Support system optimization efforts by critically analyzing current designs, equipment selection, specifications, and plant performance.
  • Deliver performance guarantee analysis.
  • Provide operating plant performance testing and troubleshooting technical input if underperformance is identified or suspected.
  • Generate creative cost reduction/design improvements for application into new projects or test facilities.
  • Stay current on latest design tools, methods, and cost reduction measures offered or deployed in the industry.
  • Develop automated internal tools for improved design efficiency and performance.
  • Oversee, deploy, and maintain prospector weather station equipment and contribute to its design and data acquisition method.
  • Support on-going equipment testing on site and remotely, propose and support the testing and qualification of new equipment.
  • Contribute to long term engineering and operating plant research and apply lessons learned to latest designs.

 

Qualifications:

  • A solid understanding of solar and electrical engineering, production modeling and power generation principles
  • Highly developed understanding and application of solar modeling methods including PVSYST, SAM, PVCase, SolarGIS, or similar.
  • Experience processing, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and analyze complex situations.
  • Accredited university degree (electrical engineering preferred) and 5 or more years of PV plant engineering.
  • Strong computer skills, including software tools such as Matlab, Python, data acquisition systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  The ability to efficiently deliver information through whatever means best suits the situation, individual and role.
  • Be familiar with the quality assurance requirements necessary in an electrical and instrumentation installation environment.
  • The foresight, awareness, and ability to take the first steps to advance toward a goal, solve a problem, and/or pursue a new idea with or without direct guidance.
  • Possess exemplary standards of honor, safety, management, ethics, quality, and productivity.
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks.

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with utility scale interconnection process or grid network modelling.
  • Master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Awareness of NERC requirements and design implementation.

Solar Development Engineer

Title: Solar Development Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO

As a Solar Development Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to develop utility scale solar (PV) projects. This position will own all engineering work from project conception through PPA execution, and presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform and coordinate all engineering activities occurring during the development phase of a project, including:
    • Completing initial site assessments and fatal flaw analyses to identify project constraints and opportunities.
    • Drafting early-stage array layouts to understand construction feasibility, then derive takeoffs for incorporation into cost models.
    • Modelling project costs based upon layout parameters.
    • Working closely with JUWI’s generation modeling team to ensure that designs are cost-efficient and optimized.
    • Integrating lessons learned from prior projects to improve future project designs.
    • Support grid integration efforts, from application preparation through interconnection agreement signing.
    • Providing technical support and documentation to assist the permitting process.
  • Review Utility Requests for Proposals and contribute to the creation of project proposals.
  • Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts including site selection, land acquisition, and permitting.
  • Support the Development Team with innovation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects.

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering.
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles; familiarity with PV system technologies and energy systems a plus.
  • 3 – 10 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications. Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus.

SCADA Engineer

Title: SCADA Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a SCADA Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a SCADA Engineer, you’ll be responsible for configuring, testing, upgrading, and commissioning SCADA systems for large PV projects. This position will be part of the Engineering group working closely with other engineers including operations, systems, electrical and network disciplines as well as field testing, QA and commissioning activities at project sites. JUWI is looking for a candidate who maintains a professional attitude with a background in electrical or controls engineering who has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of a distributed system architecture to access, present and analyze data from operating facilities.
  • Develop hardware and software solutions for assigned projects in accordance with the approved architecture using software tools typical of the trade.
  • Specify hardware for monitoring systems including industrial network, I/O and instrumentation equipment.
  • Design and implement effective human graphical interface solutions with input from senior SCADA Engineers and Operations Engineers.
  • Implement communication interfaces for protection relays and custom equipment such as inverters and specialty instruments.
  • Commission and maintain SCADA systems and troubleshoot failures including networks, hardware, instrumentation, and data interfaces.
  • Maintain current knowledge of controls, instrumentation, and telecom markets, keeping up with latest software and hardware available.
  • Work with IT group to provide coordinated solutions for remote connectivity to facilities via ISP.
  • Assist with the operability and reliability of the remote computers, software and site networked equipment including upgrades, troubleshooting and corrective action.

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in designing and configuring industrial monitoring and control systems including DNP3, Modbus, OPC, ODBC, Matlab interface and implementation.
  • Demonstrated skills with industrial instrumentation, PLC’s, HMI and common communication protocols.
  • Previous experience with distributed systems, VPN and common network hardware and tools.
  • Previous experience with web-based user interfaces utilizing database back end.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and analyze complex situations.

Paralegal

Title: Paralegal

JUWI is looking to fill the position of Paralegal to support the company’s transactional activities. The ideal candidate will have a paralegal certification, relevant experience supporting real estate and corporate transactions, demonstrated leadership, excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and excellent organizational skills. Exposure to transactions in the energy industry is preferred. The Paralegal position will work closely with the Legal team, Procurement team, Business Development team, Project Development team and Engineering team and the Paralegal’s primary duties will include conducting due diligence, making judgments about title and survey issues, preparing documentation and supporting the consummation of JUWI’s real estate and corporate transactions, researching the requirements for and managing the applications for construction and engineering licensing on behalf of JUWI, and exercising discretion regarding JUWI’s contract compliance/administration activities for JUWI’s projects and corporate housekeeping matters. Occasional project-related travel is possible. The position will be based in Boulder, Colorado.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Prepare corporate/company filings with the relevant state organizations, (e.g., secretary of state) for JUWI and its subsidiaries in each state in which such entities conduct business.
  • Lead title and survey due diligence efforts in connection with JUWI’s real estate land acquisitions and long-term leases.
  • Organize, draft, and support the preparation of, the transaction documents in connection with JUWI’s various transactions (e.g., real estate acquisitions/divestitures, corporate formations/divestitures, project construction/operation agreements, other commercial contracts).
  • Prepare closing checklists, closing binders, contract compliance charts, corporate binders, turnover packages and similar document notebooks for use by customers and JUWI personnel.
  • Manage the filing and maintenance of JUWI agreements library.
  • Support JUWI’s contract administration objectives.
  • Research legal and policy-related issues, as appropriate.
  • Interact and work closely with the Legal team, Procurement team, Business Development team and Project Development team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
  • Paralegal certification (preferred).
  • Previous paralegal experience in commercial real estate/general corporate transactional area.
