Design Engineer

Title: Design Engineer

As a Design Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to design utility scale solar (PV) projects. This position will own project designs from conception through construction, and presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

• Perform detailed solar project design and drafting work in AutoCAD, including:

  • Creation of construction drawing packages that integrate electrical, mechanical, structural and civil disciplines.
  • Optimizing project designs for safety, cost, quality, reliability, and ease of installation by working with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including: systems, civil, electrical, mechanical, structural and SCADA engineers, vendors, and construction personnel.
  • Developing, then confirming accuracy of, the project bill of materials.
  • Performing detailed engineering calculations and specification writing.
  • Ensuring the design QA/QC process is met.
  • Integrating lessons learned from prior projects to improve future project designs.
  • Providing technical support and documentation to assist the permitting process

 

• Support JUWI’s business development team with early-stage project designs, including:

  • Completing initial site assessments and fatal flaw analyses to identify project constraints and opportunities.
  • Drafting early-stage array layouts to understand construction feasibility, then derive takeoffs for incorporation into cost models.
  • Working closely with JUWI’s generation modeling team to ensure that designs are cost-efficient and optimized.
  • Assisting with modelling project costs based upon layout parameters.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects
  • Accredited university engineering degree and 2 years minimum design engineering experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and MS Excel. GIS experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with renewable energy projects and power systems
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to think analytically and present clearly
  • Strong initiative and proactive problem-solving approach
  • Willingness to travel for project related work
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code is preferred

Civil Engineer

Title: Civil Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO

Reports to: Senior Civil Engineer

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. We are bringing multiple utility scale solar power projects online over the next several years and seeking a Civil Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll execute JUWI’s civil design activities such as guiding the civil design approach of JUWI’s projects, selecting external consulting engineering firms, reviewing consultants’ work, while interacting with and supporting the Engineering, Project Development, and Construction teams at all stages of project completion. The Civil Engineer is a multi-faceted position requiring a capable professional with demonstrated experience in large-scale civil design and consultant management and you will have guidance and support from the Senior Civil Engineer as a mentor.

In this role, you’ll:

Project Development

  • Participate in site selection and layout while considering environmental, geotechnical, and civil risks.
  • Generate development, civil design, and construction budgets.
  • Evaluate site studies and project schedules.
  • Perform preliminary design and calculations for grading, drainage, erosion control and access road design.
  • Work with the Racking group regarding racking layout and project design, considering topography, access, soil characteristics and site geometry.
  • Incorporate Systems and Development Engineering groups’ generation optimization inputs influenced by slope, azimuth, and grading costs.

 

Consultant Selection and Management

  • Organize development of land surveying, civil and geotechnical engineer design consultants Scope of Work for all projects.
  • Manage external land surveying consultants on the creation of boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, aerial and topographic surveys, easements, and stakeout requirements for all projects.
  • Manage external geotechnical engineering consultants for project earthwork, foundation design, soil reports, utility crossings, etc.
  • Assist civil designers and review plans for compliance with JUWI and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist in the development of Scope of Work for civil construction subcontractor agreements.
  • Review submittals and respond to requests for information from civil subcontractors.

 

Permitting

  • Research and apply jurisdiction-specific civil design requirements for site plans and civil construction drawings.
  • Apply for and maintain local, state and federal permitting efforts.
  • Evaluate roads adjacent to job site for use before, during and after construction.

 

Travel to Job Sites

  • Work with Construction team members in overseeing civil subcontractor on-site performance.
  • Travel to potential and active projects to assist development and construction teams.

 

Ensure JUWI’s high-quality, safe, and cost-effective design in all aspects of project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • 4-6 years of civil design experience
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Knowledge of national civil design codes and requirements (ASTM, ACI, MUTCD, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% – 20% and work flexible hours

Project Developer

In this role, you’ll:

  • Own and guide all early-stage project development including:
    • Land and Real Estate:
      • Find potential project sites using internal mapping tools
      • Direct land contractors for initial landowner outreach.
      • Establish and maintain working relationships with landowners, then work with the Land and Legal Teams to secure rights for potential project sites including letters of intent (LOIs), Option Agreements, rights-of-way, and easements.
      • Coordinate with internal resources to perform title work.
    • Grid Integration:
      • Navigate the interconnection process with utilities, including application submittal with input from the internal engineering team, tracking study due dates and fees, reviewing study results, and coordinating all associated activities through interconnection agreement (IA) signing.
    • Permitting:
      • With the assistance of internal and external resources, research the regulatory landscape, local codes, and site characteristics for potential projects.
      • Develop and implement a local stakeholder outreach plan.
      • As projects mature, lead all permitting processes (zoning, site studies, applicable local, state, and federal permits).
    • Site Design: Collaborate with internal engineers and project managers to ensure project designs are optimized.
  • Engage and manage internal resources and/or third-party consulting firms to assist with development activities.
  • Act as the face of the project, both internally and externally.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Environmental Studies, Planning, Business, or Engineering.
  • 3 – 5 years of professional experience, preferably in a project management role.

As a Land Acquisition Specialist, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your communication capabilities, relationship skills, and strategic mindset to all land-related matters for solar (PV), solar + storage, and stand-alone energy storage projects throughout North America. The Land Acquisition Specialist will focus on negotiating and securing land for potential projects, then maintaining working relationships with landowners throughout the development and construction project phases. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to, and learn about, tangential development work including site selection, site design, land acquisition, and interconnection. This role is part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Secure land for potential project sites:
    • Initiate communication and establish/maintain working relationships with prospective landowners.
    • Work with landowners to understand development limits, access, and other site considerations that could affect the project’s layout and installation.
    • Undertake market research to determine fair lease/purchase prices, then represent the company in negotiations of lease/purchase prices and terms.
    • Negotiate letters of intent, lease and purchase option agreements, rights-of-way and easements, and other commercial documents related to land acquisition.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members and local governments, and collaborate with project permitters to obtain government or regulatory approval for land-related issues, including right-of-way and access easements.
  • Perform or facilitate title curative work.
  • Participate in internal decision-making on land opportunities and strategies, including prioritization of outreach efforts.
  • Maintain up-to-date database of all land outreach efforts.
  • Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts including site selection, site design, land acquisition, and grid integration.
  • Support the Development Team with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects.

Project Manager, Procurement

With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Project Manager, Procurement to match commercial and technical needs and market offerings and manage the purchase of the required parts of all JUWI’s solar projects.

JUWI is looking for an experienced individual who has: 

  • strong communication and organization skills, 
  • initiative,
  • an understanding of commercial contracts, including equipment supply and warranty contracts, and
  • an ability to synthesize the procurement interests of project owners, JUWI engineering, budgets and JUWI global into a solid procurement strategy.

 

Leadership skills, the ability to self-direct work and navigate an EPC organization are essential.

A candidate with contract experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, good judgment, quantitative reasoning skills and a demonstrated ability to manage processes.  

In this role, you’ll:

  • Organize and lead all procurement efforts within the company.
  • Maintain project procurement schedules.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the JUWI team and its vendors:
    • Become familiar with applicable bills of materials prepared by the engineering team. 
    • Coordinate project equipment and material procurement with JUWI’s engineering and construction groups and external suppliers and contractors.
    • Assist in the technical and commercial aspects of the Requests For Proposal process.
    • Work with the accounting and logistics team to issue purchase orders, including, obtain signatures from JUWI officers, follow up with vendors for order acknowledgement.
    • Monitor company and supplier contract and purchase order compliance.
    • Regularly coordinate with vendors and logistics team regarding production and lead time for equipment and materials.
    • Manage contract change orders and amendments with suppliers.
    • Lead the external-facing warranty claim process. 
  • Coordinate with project managers on liquidity management, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Track and monitor industry news related to technological advancements of major equipment and matters that may impact pricing or availability.
  • Contribute to early-stage development process with project equipment cost estimates.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree.
  • 3 – 7 years of professional experience, preferably in a project management role.
  • Ability to establish and follow work processes for managing contract compliance during the execution of construction projects.
  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative and organize work in an independent manner.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and Outlook applications.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from team members across departments.
