Financial Analyst

Job Opportunity: Financial Analyst

juwi Inc., based in Boulder, Colorado, and owned by Germany-based juwi AG is a developer and turnkey EPC contractor of solar power plants throughout North America. juwi’s main focus is the development, construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale power plants (5MW or larger).

juwi has a proven track record with more than 500MW of solar generating facilities built and currently in operation. The Company has established an aggressive target for bringing solar power on line over the next several years and is looking to fill the position of Financial Analyst to support the company’s growth. The Financial Analyst position will be responsible for a wide variety of financial analysis in supporting the Company’s business development opportunities.

juwi is looking for an individual who has demonstrated strong financial analysis and modeling skills.  The ideal candidate will also have strong oral and written communication skills and a passion for renewable energy. The position will be based in Boulder, Colorado and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Principal Position Description: 

  • Financial Modeling – Contribute to developing and financing solar projects with detailed and well-documented financial modeling and analysis;
    • Research, understand, and model detailed tax implications and incentives for projects;
    • Provide optimization analysis to project design teams comparing different project designs;
    • Support land team negotiations with lease versus buy analysis and equivalent pricing scenarios;
    • Collaborate with multiple departments to gather and verify accuracy of inputs for financial models; and
    • Deliver timely and accurate financial components of request for proposals including business & financial documents and the calculation of electricity bid prices.
  • Project Financing – Assist in all aspects of project financing processes;
    • Responsible for coordinating with headquarters for internal approvals and credit support;
    • Assist in preparing project summary materials for investors;
    • Coordinates with various departments to satisfy investor questions; and
    • Deal support and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis – Support the finance team in developing juwi’s financial forecasts and business plans that will ultimately be presented to juwi-group’s headquarters in Germany;
    • Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting to juwi-group’s headquarters; and
    • Assist finance team with Treasury functions, including cash flow forecasts and intercompany loan documentation.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, engineering, or similar; progress toward CFA a plus
  • Proven ability to build and run complex, detailed and accurate financial models
  • Excellent understanding of MS Excel; proficiency in PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong analytical skills for problem solving and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Stress-resistant team player
  • Some project related travel is expected, a willingness to work flexible hours
  • Desire to grow professionally and work in Boulder, CO

Project Planner

Title:  Project Planner 

Location:  Boulder, CO

At juwi, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Project Planner to bring our vision to life.

The Project Planner is responsible for the successful entitlement, permitting and environmental compliance for projects to which they are assigned. The Project Planner will establish and manage the permitting schedule and budget.  During the development phase of a project, the Project Planner will represent the company’s interests in front of authorities having jurisdiction such as city councils, zoning commissions, and planning commissions.  The Project Planner will manage consultants that provide subject matter expertise. In connection with the project financing process, the Project Planner will prepare permitting summaries and will address questions and issues raised by juwi’s customers on these matters.  During the construction phase of a project, the Project Planner will apply for and obtain all construction permits and will ensure compliance with all project permits.  The Project Planner will work closely with the Project Development, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Finance teams to ensure timely and smooth project execution.  

In this role, you’ll:

  • Execute the permitting processes for specific projects, including:
    • manage all land use and zoning approvals, site studies, environmental permitting, and driveway and building permit submittals, etc. and
    • select and manage consulting firms (e.g. environmental site studies, surveying, permitting support and regulatory compliance), 
    • ensure site designs comply with all permits,
    • ensure execution-phase compliance with all permits and approvals
  • Research and understand the viability of potential utility-scale solar farm sites, including zoning, land use, topography, transportation master plan conflicts, drainage, and master plan considerations. Using state and federal data, research the presence of wetlands, streams, floodplain, and endangered or threatened species.
  • Research permitting requirements specific to identified sites.
    • Identify applicable city, county, state and federal code and statutes regarding land use at sites.
    • Identify applicable permitting agencies, contact information, regulations, expected review timeframes, and fees.
    • Provide this information to the rest of the Project Development team for review and analysis.
  • Work with landowners on permitting and approval processes.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and summaries related to permitting.
  • Support the identification of potential sites for locating utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Advise the Business Development, Project Management, Legal, Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance and other teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project permitting requirements, a smooth handoff between development and project management and a successful, cost effective, and efficient project development process.
  • Manage community outreach and public stakeholder communication and education.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree: planning, civil engineering, construction management, environmental, natural resources degree or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in project development, permitting/planning.
  • Working understanding of land use, zoning, construction permitting, and environmental policy and law.
  • Understanding of relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability.
  • Ability and desire to learn from more experience team members.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from team members across departments.

Design Engineer

Title:  Design Engineer

Location: Boulder, CO

Reports to:  Director, Applications Engineering

At juwi, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Design Engineer to bring our vision to life.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Project Layout
    • Work closely with Design and Project Engineers to understand design inputs 
    • Develop site specific solar racking layouts in CAD based on design inputs provided
    • Collaborate with racking team to develop optimized solutions
  • CAD Documentation – Creation and Management
    • Produce full mechanical drawing package
    • Create Assembly Drawings and combine them for release to construction
    • Generate Bill of Materials working with both CAD and Excel
    • Develop and maintain installation Work Instructions package
    • Provide drawing revision submittals to construction 
    • Conform to juwi documentation standards, ECO, and revision control processes
    • Organize and maintain configuration management system for projects
  • Project Support
    • Travel to jobsite to assist in the training of Construction Staff
    • Travel to jobsite to assist in Quality Inspections during construction
    • Assist team with reliability and durability testing of solar racking components at multiple juwi test facilities

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in technical drafting or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a CAD Designer in a manufacturing or product development team environment.
  • Strong experience in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault
  • Experience creating and working with large assembly files
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented individual 
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once with great time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to travel up to 25% and willingness to work flexible and long hours
  • Autonomous: take initiative and organize work tasks in an independent manner
  • Willingness to respond rapidly to changing priorities and work assignments
  • Desire to grow professionally
