Project Planner

Title: Project Planner
Location: Boulder, CO
Reports to: Director, Development
Start Date: Immediately

At juwi, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Development Associate to bring our vision to life.

As a Development Associate, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your business knowledge and analytical capabilities to develop solar (PV), solar + storage, and stand-alone energy storage projects. The Development Associate will touch all aspects of project development. This position will focus on managing the request for proposal (RFP) response process, but will also have the opportunity to contribute to, and learn about, development work including: site selection, site design, land acquisition, interconnection, and permitting. This role presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do approach and innovative thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Execute the permitting processes for specific projects, including:
    • manage all land use and zoning approvals, site studies, environmental permitting, and driveway and building permit submittals, etc. and
    • select and manage consulting firms (e.g. environmental site studies, surveying, permitting support and regulatory compliance), 
    • ensure site designs comply with all permits,
    • ensure execution-phase compliance with all permits and approvals
  • Research and understand the viability of potential utility-scale solar farm sites, including zoning, land use, topography, transportation master plan conflicts, drainage, and master plan considerations. Using state and federal data, research the presence of wetlands, streams, floodplain, and endangered or threatened species.
  • Research permitting requirements specific to identified sites.
    • Identify applicable city, county, state and federal code and statutes regarding land use at sites.
    • Identify applicable permitting agencies, contact information, regulations, expected review timeframes, and fees.
    • Provide this information to the rest of the Project Development team for review and analysis.
  • Work with landowners on permitting and approval processes.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and summaries related to permitting.
  • Support the identification of potential sites for locating utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Advise the Business Development, Project Management, Legal, Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance and other teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project permitting requirements, a smooth handoff between development and project management and a successful, cost effective, and efficient project development process.
  • Manage community outreach and public stakeholder communication and education.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree: planning, civil engineering, construction management, environmental, natural resources degree or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in project development, permitting/planning.
  • Working understanding of land use, zoning, construction permitting, and environmental policy and law.
  • Understanding of relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability.
  • Ability and desire to learn from other team members.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from team members across departments.
  • Willingness to work flexible and long hours with occasional project-related travel.
  • Team player.
  • Interest in renewable energy.
  • Skilled in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.

Development Associate

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead the Development Teams’ Request-For-Proposal (RFPs) response efforts, including:
    • Reviewing utility and corporate RFPs and extracting then clearly communicating opportunity details (schedule, key deliverables, etc.) to the larger Development team
    • Organizing and engaging the appropriate team members on the Development, Engineering, Finance, and Management teams to collect the deliverables and content needed to assemble a cohesive and attractive proposal
    • Drafting, assembling, and submitting final proposals
    • Serving as the primary point of contact with off takers during the entire RFP process (RFP submittal through project contracting)
  • Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts, primarily focusing on:
    • Site Design: Designing and drafting early-stage layouts for solar (PV) projects
    • Cost Estimating: Modeling anticipated project costs based on site design parameters
    • Grid Integration: Supporting grid interconnection efforts, from grid analysis through initial application, impact study review and interconnection agreement signing
    • Land Acquisition and Permitting: Supporting both disciplines by providing planning-level site layouts, construction details, maps, project summaries and detailed reports
  • Support the Development Team with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for renewable energy projects
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Environmental Studies, Planning, Business, or Engineering
  • 0 – 5 years of professional experience
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative and organize work in an independent manner
  • A scrappy, roll-up-your sleeves team player
  • Willingness to work flexible and long hours
  • Desire to grow professionally
