Business Development Analyst

Title: Business Development Analyst
Location: Boulder, CO

The Business Development Analyst will be responsible and accountable for supporting and executing the origination strategy of the company in the North American market. The Business Development Analyst will work closely with the company’s senior management group, Finance and Legal teams as well as the Business Development team leadership to execute the company’s origination goals. The position will present an opportunity to connect and collaborate with senior leadership and well as have meaningful access to the company’s thought-leaders through an active mentoring and sponsorship model.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Generally support the Business Development group activities as assigned by the Business Development team leadership, senior management and other related functional groups within the company, including the Finance and Legal groups; representative tasks may include
    • Conducting market research,
    • Supporting senior executives with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects, 
    • Supporting the Finance and Project Development groups for purposes of creating relevant financial models,
    • Collecting business and technical content from diverse functional groups within the company and incorporating such content into Business Development deliverables,
    • Identifying process bottlenecks or resource constraints in connection with assigned tasks and communicating them to supervisors on a timely basis,
    • Making recommendations regarding the prioritization of origination priorities,
    • Proactively reporting the status of assigned business development tasks to the Business Development team leadership
  • Take ownership of the company’s goal to generate energy project proposals on a high-volume basis, including 
    • Preparing Request-For-Proposal responses (managing and collecting content and drafting the proposals),
    • Creating and sending out unsolicited proposals to potential customers,
    • Working on multiple projects and transactions at any given time with multiple teams, 
    • Managing, updating and supplementing the company’s customer database
  • Implement, execute and improve the tools and documentation used to communicate and report origination opportunities and priorities and the Business Development activities that are underway in support of these initiatives
  • In connection with the tools and documentation described above, maintain and promote clear communication with and among the company’s Finance, Project Development, Legal and Business Development groups about the status of business origination activities and opportunities
  • Arrange and facilitate/lead customer meetings among the Business Development team, the company’s senior management and potential customers once an origination opportunity has sufficiently ripened
  • Effectuate a clean “hand off” of project opportunities to the company’s Project Development group

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 0 – 5 years of professional experience.

Director, Project Development

Title: Director, Project Development
Location: Boulder, CO

The Director, Project Development has experience and familiarity with development strategy, site evaluation, land negotiations, interconnection processes, environmental studies and permitting and familiarity with solar cost, generation and financial modeling.  The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, attention to detail, judgment, and a demonstrated ability to manage a team and make sound business decisions.

In this role, you’ll:

The Director, Project Development is responsible for managing the project development team and 

driving the company’s development strategy. The Director, Project Development will establish and manage development prioritization and keep a development schedule and budget.  The Director, Project Development will be responsible for allocating internal and external resources as necessary to meet schedules. 

During the development phase of a project, the Director, Project Development will be expected to represent the company’s interests in front of authorities having jurisdiction such as city or county councils, zoning or planning commissions, state-level permitting boards and other project stakeholders.  During the financing phase of a project, the Director, Project Development will ensure the timely creation of a complete data room.  During the construction phase of a project, the Director, Project Development will liaise with the company’s project managers on all development matters.  

The Director, Project Development will work closely with the Business Development, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Finance teams to ensure timely and smooth project execution.  

In addition to the functional responsibilities described above, the Director, Project Development:

  • Supports the team and keeps them focused and efficient.
  • Is available, thorough and efficient when problems arising within the development team’s scope need to be solved.
  • Patiently and transparently communicates decision-making process and strategy.
  • Ensures potential land use, construction, interconnection and environmental risks and costs are understood prior to committing to a project site.
  • Generates and manages development schedules and budgets reflecting deep knowledge of business opportunities, interconnection, permitting and site study requirements, timeframes, and costs.
  • Oversees the development and permitting processes for specific projects, including:
    • interpreting site study reports and other sources of potential site constraints.

Land Manager

Title: Land Manager
Location: Boulder, CO
Reports To: Director, Project Development

The Land Manager works under the general supervision of the Director, Project Development and will lead the Land Team which is responsible for securing land positions across the United States. The Land Manager will also be responsible for leading all real estate due diligence and title review on both juwi-developed projects and third-party acquisition opportunities across the United States.  The Land Manager is responsible for managing all land acquisition staff and resources and participating in advanced land acquisition negotiations and contract drafting for various types of land contracts.  The Land Manager will coordinate closely with the Project Development, Business Development, and Legal teams regarding land strategy.  

In this role, you’ll:

  • Have expertise at drafting and negotiating letters of intent, lease/purchase option agreements, rights-of-way and easements, and other commercial documents related to land acquisition or title curative
  • Represent the company in special meetings with landowners that require advanced negotiation skills or understanding
  • Ensure quality assurance of land staff work product
  • Lead all due diligence necessary for real estate transactions, including review of title policies and ALTA surveys, and provide risk assessments for both acquisition and future greenfield opportunities
  • Have an advanced understanding of surface title, mineral title, and the accommodation doctrine
  • Create innovative solutions with surface and mineral owners to solve common problems arising from title reports
  • Proactively remove risk from projects by negotiating contracts with landowners, third party stakeholders, or the title company to cure title deficiencies
  • Lead internal decision-making with recommendations on land opportunities and strategies, including prioritization of outreach efforts accordingly
  • Manage day to day activities and priorities of 2 land team members as well as external consultants
  • Define land acquisition goals in coordination with Management, Project Development, and Business Development
  • Maintain and report on the budget established for land acquisition and diligence activities
  • Maintain working relationships with prospective landowners with enthusiasm and accuracy
  • Work with landowners to outline and understand development limits, access, and other site considerations that could affect solar array layout and installation
  • Undertake market research and land valuations to determine fair lease rates
  • Build partnerships with community members and local governments
  • Gain government or regulatory approval for right-of-way easements, access easements, or other issues related to site control
  • Participate as an integral member of the Project Development team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.)
  • 6+ years previous land acquisition experience
  • Prior management experience
  • Superlative oral and written communication skills
  • Public Speaking experience
  • Ability to work with diverse landowners in an adaptive and effective manner

Manager, Business Development

This Business Development role will be responsible and accountable for contributing to the development and execution of the origination strategy of the company in a defined geography within the North American market. This Business Development role will work closely with the company’s senior management group, Finance and Legal teams as well as the Business Development team leadership to execute the company’s origination goals. The position will present an opportunity to connect and collaborate with senior leadership as well as have meaningful access to the company’s thought-leaders through an active mentoring and sponsorship model.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Originate new business development opportunities for North America
  • Successfully assess new opportunities based on a thorough understanding of the North American energy business, including markets, technology and competitors; be able to quickly identify attractive opportunities and decline unattractive ones
  • Successfully execute attractive growth opportunities, including greenfield and M&A projects
  • Work closely and negotiate with commercial counterparties, government entities and other stakeholders on projects/transactions
  • Successfully advocate internally for growth opportunities, including presentations to the senior management team
  • Review and analyze market opportunities and develop recommendations
  • Liaise with all internal stakeholders as required to gain sign off and approval of opportunities
  • Complete internal corporate requirements for reporting on development of growth opportunities 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

Project Planner

Title: Project Planner

The Project Planner is responsible for the successful entitlement, permitting and environmental compliance for projects to which they are assigned. The Project Planner will establish and manage the permitting schedule and budget.  During the development phase of a project, the Project Planner will represent the company’s interests in front of authorities having jurisdiction such as city councils, zoning commissions, and planning commissions.  The Project Planner will manage consultants that provide subject matter expertise. In connection with the project financing process, the Project Planner will prepare permitting summaries and will address questions and issues raised by juwi’s customers on these matters.  During the construction phase of a project, the Project Planner will apply for and obtain all construction permits and will ensure compliance with all project permits.  The Project Planner will work closely with the Project Development, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Finance teams to ensure timely and smooth project execution.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Execute the permitting processes for specific projects, including:
    • manage all land use and zoning approvals, site studies, environmental permitting, and driveway and building permit submittals, etc. and
    • select and manage consulting firms (e.g. environmental site studies, surveying, permitting support and regulatory compliance),
    • ensure site designs comply with all permits,
    • ensure execution-phase compliance with all permits and approvals
  • Research and understand the viability of potential utility-scale solar farm sites, including zoning, land use, topography, transportation master plan conflicts, drainage, and master plan considerations. Using state and federal data, research the presence of wetlands, streams, floodplain, and endangered or threatened species.
  • Research permitting requirements specific to identified sites.
    • Identify applicable city, county, state and federal code and statutes regarding land use at sites.
    • Identify applicable permitting agencies, contact information, regulations, expected review timeframes, and fees.
    • Provide this information to the rest of the Project Development team for review and analysis.
  • Work with landowners on permitting and approval processes.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and summaries related to permitting.
  • Support the identification of potential sites for locating utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Advise the Business Development, Project Management, Legal, Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance and other teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project permitting requirements, a smooth handoff between development and project management and a successful, cost effective, and efficient project development process.
  • Manage community outreach and public stakeholder communication and education.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree: planning, civil engineering, construction management, environmental, natural resources degree or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in project development, permitting/planning.
