Land Acquisition Specialist

Land Acquisition Specialist

Department: Project Development
Location: Boulder, CO

Function:

The Land Acquisition Specialist will be responsible for securing land positions for the Company across the US. He or she will evaluate potential project sites, negotiate letters of intent and lease/purchase options and support the Project Development group.

In addition to the functional responsibilities described above, the Land Acquisition Specialist:

  • Participates as an integral member of the Project Development team
  • Identifies land parcels meeting the Company’s solar development requirements
  • Secures land positions for the Company
  • Supports in-house title in gathering, organizing and analyzing title documents and performing internal title updates
  • Works with in-house GIS analysis to guide land screening activities
  • Engages landowners in land acquisition discussions about project site opportunities
  • Supports drafting of LOI, option and lease agreements
  • Negotiates LOIs, options and lease agreements with landowners
  • Travels to site locations to meet with landowners and evaluate sites
  • Maintains a working relationship with landowners
  • Coordinates and distributes work assignments when the workload requires using contract personnel for lease acquisitions
  • Writes summary land reports documenting the landscape of leasing options
  • Assists in title curative work
  • Identifies and selects viable utility-scale solar energy generation facility locations, including the identification of property ownership, topography, insolation, and interconnection
  • Collaborates with the Business Development Tea
  • Performs development activities (e.g. entitlement, site studies, permitting) commensurate with experience and expertise.

Project Developer

Project Developer

Function:

The Project Developer is responsible for securing land positions, negotiating LOIs and lease/purchase options, the successful development, including entitlement, permitting and environmental compliance, for projects to which he or she is assigned. The Project Developer will establish and manage the development schedule and development budget.  During the development phase of a project, the Project Developer will represent the company’s interests in front of authorities having jurisdiction such as city councils, zoning commissions, and planning commissions.  In connection with the project financing process, the Project Developer will prepare permitting summaries and will address questions and issues raised by juwi’s customers on these matters.  During the construction phase of a project, the Project Developer will  ensure compliance with all project permits.  The Project Developer will work closely with the Business Development, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Finance teams to ensure timely and smooth project development.

Position Description:

  • Oversees the development and permitting processes for specific projects, including:
    • supporting the Engineering team in the interconnection process,
    • selecting and managing consulting firms (e.g. environmental site studies, surveying, permitting support and regulatory compliance),
    • consulting on the selection of a civil design firm,
    • supporting site design efforts,
    • managing all land use and zoning approvals, site studies and environmental permitting, and
    • ensuring compliance with all permits and approvals;
  • Advises the Business Development, Project Management, Legal, Engineering, Construction, and other teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project permitting requirements, a smooth handoff between development and project management and a successful, cost effective, and efficient project development process;
  • Manages community outreach and public stakeholder communication and education;
  • Manages outside counsel on project-specific land use, zoning, and environmental issues; and
  • Works with landowners on permitting and approval processes.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree: planning, civil engineering, construction management, environmental, natural resources degree or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in land sourcing, project development, permitting/planning.
  • Strong understanding of land title matters, land use, zoning, construction permitting, and environmental policy and law.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal governments and regulations.

Operations Center Specialist

Operations Center Specialist

Function:

juwi has established an aggressive target for bringing solar power on line over the next several years and is looking to fill one Operations Center Specialist position adding to the current team in support of the company’s growth.  The Operations Center Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, through the Company’s SCADA system, all juwi projects and for providing a first response to identified operating issues.

juwi is looking for a candidate who maintains a professional attitude with a background in engineering or other analytical disciplines and who has excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. The position requires a flexible shift work schedule and will be based in Boulder, Colorado reporting to the Director of Operations.

Position Description:
  • Monitor on a real time basis various operating solar plants utilizing the Company’s SCADA system.
  • Receive, log and initiate in an informed manner an initial response to all plant alarms.
  • Ensure established trouble shooting procedures are initiated, including informing third party contractors, owners and other juwi personnel as required.
  • Dispatch of contractors to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Follow-up on all incidents to ensure final required actions have been completed.
  • Maintain professional and effective relationships with all project stakeholders, establishing a basis of trust and confidence.
  • Identify operating issues with the SCADA system, initiating SCADA system troubleshooting actions as needed and recommending design changes to enable more effective project monitoring and analysis.
  • Perform initial energy production analysis for operating facilities, tracking production and identifying anomalies for action by others.
  • Effectively communicate information on plant operating concerns to other Operations Center Specialists during shift overlaps.

Qualifications

    • Accredited university degree (electrical engineering, mathematics, sciences) with some applicable work experience preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of energy generation principles.
    • Analytical skills, with the ability to investigate and diagnose diverse occurrences.
    • Familiarity with Matlab or similar analytical software tool.
    • Basic SCADA knowledge is preferred.
    • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with web based systems and software tools, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Database Management software (such as Access).
    • Excellent time management skills with strong organizational skills and ability.
    • Autonomous: take initiative and organize work in an independent manner.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to discuss complex situations with others in person or by telephone and to coordinate an agreed action plan.

Function:

The Origination team member will be responsible and accountable for executing the origination strategy of the company in the North American market.  The Origination professional will work closely with the company’s senior management group, Finance and Legal teams as well as the BD team leadership to execute the company’s origination goals. The origination responsibility/territory will be determined and may evolve as new market opportunities become viable.

Position Description:

The Origination Team Member will, in addition to fulfilling other related responsibilities:

  • Originate new solar PV business development opportunities in defined area of responsibility/North American territory
  • Successfully assess new opportunities based on a thorough understanding of the North American energy business, including markets, technology and competitors; be able to quickly identify attractive opportunities and decline unattractive ones
  • Successfully execute attractive growth opportunities, including greenfield and M&A projects
  • Work closely and negotiate with commercial counterparties, government entities and other stakeholders on projects/transactions
  • Generally, contribute to the Business Development group activities as assigned by the BD team leadership, senior management and other related functional groups within the company, including the Finance and Legal groups; representative tasks may include
    • Conducting market research,
    • Supporting senior executives with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects,
    • Supporting the Finance and Project Development groups,
    • Collecting business and technical content from diverse functional groups within the company and incorporating such content into Business Development deliverables,
    • Identifying process bottlenecks or resource constraints in connection with assigned tasks and communicating them to supervisors on a timely basis,
    • Making recommendations regarding the prioritization of origination priorities,
    • Proactively reporting the status of assigned business development tasks to the BD team leadership
  • Take ownership of the company’s goal to generate energy project proposals on a high-volume basis, including
    • Preparing Request-For-Proposal responses (managing and collecting content and drafting the proposals),
    • Creating and sending out unsolicited proposals to potential customers,
    • Working on multiple projects and transactions at any given time with multiple teams,
    • Managing, updating and supplementing the company’s customer database
  • Implement, execute and improve the tools and documentation used to communicate and report origination opportunities and priorities and the Business Development activities that are underway in support of these initiatives
  • In connection with the tools and documentation described above, maintain and promote clear communication with and among the company’s Finance, Project Development, Legal and Business Development groups about the status of business origination activities and opportunities
  • Arrange and facilitate/lead customer meetings among the Business Development team, the company’s senior management and potential customers once an origination opportunity has sufficiently ripened
  • Effectuate a clean “hand off” of project opportunities to the company’s Project Development group

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA degree preferred).
