Project Developer

Title: Project Developer

Location: Boulder, CO

Reports To: Director, Development

As a Project Developer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem- solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to develop utility scale solar projects. This position will manage all facets of development for early-stage project assets, and presents an opportunity to be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Own and guide all early-stage project development including:
    • Land and Real Estate:
      • Find potential project sites using internal mapping tools.
      • Direct land contractors for initial landowner outreach.
      • Establish and maintain working relationships with landowners, then work with the Land and Legal Teams to secure rights for potential project sites including letters of intent (LOIs), Option Agreements, rights-of-way, and easements.
      • Coordinate with internal resources to perform title work.
    • Grid Integration:
      • Navigate the interconnection process with utilities, including application submittal with input from the internal engineering team, tracking study due dates and fees, reviewing study results, and coordinating all associated activities through interconnection agreement (IA) signing.
    • Permitting:
      • With the assistance of internal and external resources, research the regulatory landscape, local codes, and site characteristics for potential projects.
      • Develop and implement a local stakeholder outreach plan.
      • As projects mature, lead all permitting processes (zoning, site studies, applicable local, state, and federal permits).
    • Site Design: Collaborate with internal engineers and project managers to ensure project designs are optimized.
  • Engage and manage internal resources and/or third-party consulting firms to assist with development activities.
  • Act as the face of the project, both internally and externally.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Environmental Studies, Planning, Business, or Engineering
  • 3 – 7 years of professional experience, preferably in a project management role
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks

Design Engineer

Title: Design Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO

As a Design Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to design utility scale solar (PV) projects. This position will own project designs from conception through construction, and presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

• Perform detailed solar project design and drafting work in AutoCAD, including:

  • Creation of construction drawing packages that integrate electrical, mechanical, structural and civil disciplines.
  • Optimizing project designs for safety, cost, quality, reliability, and ease of installation by working with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including: systems, civil, electrical, mechanical, structural and SCADA engineers, vendors, and construction personnel.
  • Developing, then confirming accuracy of, the project bill of materials.
  • Performing detailed engineering calculations and specification writing.
  • Ensuring the design QA/QC process is met.
  • Integrating lessons learned from prior projects to improve future project designs.
  • Providing technical support and documentation to assist the permitting process

 

• Support JUWI’s business development team with early-stage project designs, including:

  • Completing initial site assessments and fatal flaw analyses to identify project constraints and opportunities.
  • Drafting early-stage array layouts to understand construction feasibility, then derive takeoffs for incorporation into cost models.
  • Working closely with JUWI’s generation modeling team to ensure that designs are cost-efficient and optimized.
  • Assisting with modelling project costs based upon layout parameters.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects
  • Accredited university engineering degree and 2 years minimum design engineering experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and MS Excel. GIS experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with renewable energy projects and power systems
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to think analytically and present clearly
  • Strong initiative and proactive problem-solving approach
  • Willingness to travel for project related work
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code is preferred

Development Associate

Title: Development Associate

As a Development Associate, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your business knowledge and analytical capabilities to develop utility scale solar projects. The Development Associate will touch all aspects of project development. This position will focus on managing the request for proposal (RFP) response process, but will also have the opportunity to contribute to, and learn about, development work including: site selection, site design, land acquisition, interconnection, and permitting. This role presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.
In this role, you’ll:

• Lead the Development Teams’ Request-For-Proposal (RFPs) response efforts, including:

  • Reviewing utility and corporate RFPs and extracting then clearly communicating opportunity details (schedule, key deliverables, etc.) to the larger Development team
  •  Organizing and engaging the appropriate team members on the Development, Engineering, Finance, and Management teams to collect the deliverables and content needed to assemble a cohesive and attractive proposal
  • Drafting, assembling, and submitting final proposals
  •  Serving as the primary point of contact with offtakers during the entire RFP process (RFP submittal through project contracting)

 

• Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts, primarily focusing on:

  • Site Design: Designing and drafting early-stage layouts for solar projects
  • Cost Estimating: Modeling anticipated project costs based on site design parameters.
  • Grid Integration: Supporting grid interconnection efforts, from grid analysis through initial application, impact study review and interconnection agreement signing
  •  Land Acquisition and Permitting: Supporting both disciplines by providing planning-level site layouts, construction details, maps, project summaries and detailed reports.

 

• Support the Development Team with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects.

 

Qualifications:

Financial Analyst

Job Opportunity:  Financial Analyst
Location:  Boulder, CO
Reports To:  Chief Financial Officer

The Financial Analyst position will be responsible for a wide variety of financial analysis in supporting the Company.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Primary Role:  Support the finance team in financial planning and analysis including developing JUWI’s financial forecasts and business plans that will ultimately be presented to JUWI group’s headquarters in Germany;
    • Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting to JUWI group’s headquarters; and
    • Assist finance team with Treasury functions, including cash flow forecasts and intercompany loan documentation.
  • Secondary Role:  Contribute to developing and financing solar projects with detailed and well-documented financial modeling and analysis;
    • Research, understand, and model detailed tax implications and incentives for projects;
    • Provide optimization analysis to project design teams comparing different project designs;
    • Support land team negotiations with lease versus buy analysis and equivalent pricing scenarios;
    • Collaborate with multiple departments to gather and verify accuracy of inputs for financial models; and
    • Deliver timely and accurate financial components of request for proposals including business and financial documents and the calculation of electricity bid prices.
  • Some Exposure to:  Assisting with JUWI’s project financing processes;
    • Responsible for coordinating with JUWI group’s headquarters in Germany for internal approvals and credit support;
    • Assist in preparing project summary materials for investors;
    • Coordinate with various departments to respond to investor questions; and
    • Deal support and ad-hoc analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or similar; progress toward CFA a plus
  • Proven ability to build and run complex, detailed and accurate financial models
  • Excellent understanding of MS Excel; proficiency in PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong analytical skills for problem solving and excellent attention to detail

Procurement Manager

Title:  Procurement Manager
Location:  Boulder, CO (Hybrid)

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Procurement Manager to match commercial and technical needs and market offerings and lead the purchase of all the required parts of a solar project.

JUWI is looking for an experienced individual who has:

      1. strong negotiation skills,
      2. business acumen, particularly with an emphasis on price analysis and finding buy-side value,
      3. a firm understanding of commercial contracts, including equipment supply and warranty contracts, and
      4. an ability to synthesize the procurement interests of project owners, JUWI engineering, budgets and JUWI global into a solid procurement strategy.

Leadership skills, the ability to self-direct work and navigate an EPC organization are essential.

A candidate with contract experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, good judgment, quantitative reasoning skills and a demonstrated ability to manage processes.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead and/or manage procurement transactions through the full lifecycle of the process:
    • Become familiar with applicable bills of materials prepared by the engineering team
    • Pre-qualify appropriate vendors (including financial review)
    • Organize and manage vendor Request for Proposals for upcoming projects, including the development and approval of key commercial terms
    • Support or lead negotiation of key commercial terms and coordinate with legal on key legal terms
    • Monitor company and vendor contract compliance
    • Coordinate with logistics team
    • Manage equipment change orders with suppliers
    • Support or lead warranty claim and/or vendor performance-related damage negotiations
  • Track and monitor industry news related to technological advancements of major equipment and matters that may impact pricing or availability
  • Coordinate project equipment and material procurement with engineering and planning groups
  • Contribute to early-stage development process with project equipment cost estimates
  • Coordinate with project managers on liquidity management, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree;
  • At least five to seven years of relevant experience
  • Experience negotiating material/equipment supply contracts and major commercial terms
  • Ability to establish and follow work processes for managing contract compliance during the execution of construction projects

Product Engineer

Title:  Product Engineer

As a Product Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to contribute to the design, testing, qualification, production, and installation support of solar racking products for utility scale solar (PV) projects. This position will support the team across a wide variety of Product Engineering functions, and presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll work independently in the following areas:

  • Product Development:
    • Mechanical design of components using LEAN and DFM principles
    • Detailed documentation, working with Autodesk Inventor and Vault system, bill of materials management, detailed drawings with ECO and revision control
    • Mechanical analysis of designs with hand calculations and FEA (Nastran)
    • Prototype and testing of new and existing designs and processes
    • Migrating new components into high volume manufacturing, working with and qualifying vendors as needed
    • Document new processes with work instructions used by construction personnel.
    • Proven history of mechanical design with cost reduction
    • Develop, coordinate, and perform reliability testing. Utilize design of experiments to develop test plans, perform tests, and evaluate results. Create reliability test reports for 3rd party evaluation
    • Work with third party accredited laboratories when appropriate to achieve UL or IEC certifications
  • Product Support
    • Travel to jobsites (up to 25%), working with construction team to provide engineering support during different phases of construction and at commissioning
    • Record lessons learned from the field regarding designs and processes for continuous improvement
    • Troubleshoot problems and conduct root cause related to racking products in the field, occasionally requiring travel to project sites
    • Develop and perform in-field reliability and durability testing of racking and tracking system components at multiple JUWI test facilities

 

Qualifications:

  • Degreed Engineer from an Accredited University in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an Engineer in a manufacturing or product development team environment
  • Hands-on individual, comfortable working with hand and power tools, with strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong experience in Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks required. Working knowledge of Autodesk Vault, and finite element analysis software, such as Nastran.  Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering principles and stress analysis is required
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented individual with history of writing reports for 3rd party review
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Autonomous: take initiative and organize work tasks in an independent manner
  • Desire to grow professionally

 

Position Preferences:

  • Data analysis and visualization with Python.
  • Strong background in wide array of manufacturing processes including extrusion, stamping, casting, welding, plating, and injection molding.

  • Familiar with statistical process control terminology used in manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience in failure analysis and/or root cause analysis
