juwi Inc. has established an aggressive target for bringing solar power on line over the next several years and is seeking a Project Engineer to support the company’s growth. juwi Inc. is seeking an experienced professional who has demonstrated experience and excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
JUWI is seeking an experienced individual who has knowledge of and experience with the complete engineering design effort of utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects. As a key member of the engineering team, the Sr. Project Engineer will coordinate internal project design deliverables, be responsible for internal CAD processes, and be the primary technical interface for construction activities. The ideal candidate will also have a strong teamwork ethic, knowledge of solar plant construction and a focus on quality. The position will be based in Boulder, CO and will report to VP, Operations.
The Sr. Project Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to oversee, perform, and coordinate project design work and assure timely delivery of design documents and products. The Project Engineer will self-perform the work and manage internal and external design engineering scope. This work consists of DC equipment design and specifications, complete projects’ bill of material, project specific construction QA/QC documents, and integration of work products from other team members into the overall engineering package including AutoCAD drawings. The Sr. Project Engineer will be expected to coordinate design meetings, work with in-house engineers, and communicate progress and potential bottlenecks to the applicable project manager. Typical design tasks include project layout drafting, DC equipment sizing and cable calculations, detail drawing drafting, equipment take-offs, and specification writing. The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing the internal design QA/QC process, ensuring complete reviews and corrections from project stakeholders.
The Sr. Project Engineer with the input of the engineering group, will create a work schedule that supports the overall project schedule. The Sr. Project Engineer will attend weekly project meetings and be prepared to address engineering issues. The Sr. Project Engineer will support the procurement process through finalization of specifications, quotation review and approval of the project bill of material. The Sr. Project Engineer will work with systems engineers, vendors, and construction personnel to optimize project designs for cost, quality, maintenance and ease of installation. The Sr. Project Engineer will provide support to the construction site via responses to RFIs, transmittals and informal correspondence.
Accredited university engineering degree and 5+ years of technical, engineering and design experience
Demonstrated experience with renewable energy-type projects
Demonstrated familiarity and understanding of the various fields of engineering related to utility-scale photovoltaic projects including civil, geotechnical, and electrical.
Working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and requirements that apply to utility-scale solar projects
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and MS Excel
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to think analytically and present clearly
Ability to lead design engineering and oversee CAD processes
Strong initiative and proactive problem-solving approach
Willingness to travel for project related work
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code

The Project Developer is responsible for securing land positions, negotiating LOIs and lease/purchase options, the successful development, including entitlement, permitting and environmental compliance, for projects to which he or she is assigned. The Project Developer will establish and manage the development schedule and development budget. During the development phase of a project, the Project Developer will represent the company’s interests in front of authorities having jurisdiction such as city councils, zoning commissions, and planning commissions. In connection with the project financing process, the Project Developer will prepare permitting summaries and will address questions and issues raised by juwi’s customers on these matters. During the construction phase of a project, the Project Developer will ensure compliance with all project permits. The Project Developer will work closely with the Business Development, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Finance teams to ensure timely and smooth project development.
In addition to the functional responsibilities described above, the Project Developer:
Participates as an integral member of the Project Development team;
Identifies land parcels meeting the Company’s solar development requirements;
Secures land positions for the Company;
Supports in-house title in gathering, organizing and analyzing title documents and performing internal title updates;
Works with in-house GIS resources to guide land screening activities;
Engages landowners in land acquisition discussions about project site opportunities;
Supports drafting of LOI, option and lease agreements;
Negotiates LOIs, options and lease agreements with landowners;
Travels to site locations to meet with landowners and evaluate sites;
Maintains a working relationship with landowners;
Coordinates and distributes work assignments when the workload requires using contract personnel for lease acquisitions;
Writes summary land reports documenting the landscape of leasing options;
Assists in title curative work;
Identifies and selects viable utility-scale solar energy generation facility locations, including the identification of property ownership, topography, insolation, and interconnection;
Confers with internal team members to ensure potential land use, zoning, and environmental risks and costs are understood prior to committing to a project site;
Generates and manages development schedules and budgets reflecting research into permitting and site study requirements, timeframes, and costs and periodically reports progress;
Oversees the development and permitting processes for specific projects, including:
supporting the Engineering team in the interconnection process,
selecting and managing consulting firms (e.g. environmental site studies, surveying, permitting support and regulatory compliance),
consulting on the selection of a civil design firm,
supporting site design efforts,
managing all land use and zoning approvals, site studies and environmental permitting, and
ensuring compliance with all permits and approvals;
Advises the Business Development, Project Management, Legal, Engineering, Construction, and other teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project permitting requirements, a smooth handoff between development and project management and a successful, cost effective, and efficient project development process;
Manages community outreach and public stakeholder communication and education;
Manages outside counsel on project-specific land use, zoning, and environmental issues; and
Works with landowners on permitting and approval processes.
BA/BS degree: planning, civil engineering, construction management, environmental, natural resources degree or relevant work experience preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Minimum of five years of experience in land sourcing, project development, permitting/planning.
Strong understanding of land title matters, land use, zoning, construction permitting, and environmental policy and law.
Understanding of local, state, and federal governments and regulations.

The Manager, Systems Engineering is responsible for juwi’s initial system design activities including plant generation modeling and high-level system design. The Manager will be involved with projects at the early stage of development and continually contribute refinements as pricing, site feasibility and interconnection design evolve. The Manager will provide technical support during project engineering and construction as needed and evaluate and direct test efforts related to project performance during the operations phase. The Manager is responsible for technical and commercial aspects of generation models and performance guarantees and will suitably defend analysis and supporting assumptions under third party engineer review.
Provide team direction regarding initial system design, and optimization and act as the primary internal point of contact for new project design technical details.
Work with Business Development group to support technical and performance aspects required to respond to RFP opportunities.
Contribute to generation modeling improvement and oversee team members results for accuracy and optimization.
Guide and forge an efficient, creative, and motivated Systems Engineering Team while providing career development for each member.
Manage and contribute to operating plant forecast and performance reporting systems.
Provide financing technical support for generation models and performance guarantees while contributing new ideas and innovative methods.
Deliver performance guarantee oversight and analysis.
Provide operating plant performance testing and troubleshooting technical expertise if underperformance is identified or suspected.
Lead cost reduction/design improvement efforts for application into new projects or test facilities.
Stay current on latest design tools, methods, and cost reduction measures offered or deployed in the industry.
Research and develop automated internal tools and new methods for improved design efficiency and performance.
Oversee juwi’s local test facility including equipment selection, test fixture/equipment design and data acquisition suggestions.
Contribute to long term engineering and operating plant research and apply lessons learned to latest designs.
Coordinate with international subsidiaries regarding system design, cost reduction ideas, and quality improvements.
Degree from an accredited university in engineering, mathematics, or applicable technical discipline
Master’s degree is preferred
A thorough understanding and demonstrated practical application of solar engineering, production modeling and power generation principles
Highly developed understanding and application of solar modeling software including PVSYST and MATLAB
Demonstrated technical team management skills
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
