Project Developer

Title: Project Developer

Location: Boulder, CO

Reports To: Director, Development

Start Date: Immediately

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Project Developer to bring our vision to life.

As a Project Developer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem- solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to develop utility scale solar projects. This position will manage all facets of development for early-stage project assets, and presents an opportunity to be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Own and guide all early-stage project development including:
    • Land and Real Estate:
      • Find potential project sites using internal mapping tools.
      • Direct land contractors for initial landowner outreach.
      • Establish and maintain working relationships with landowners, then work with the Land and Legal Teams to secure rights for potential project sites including letters of intent (LOIs), Option Agreements, rights-of-way, and easements.
      • Coordinate with internal resources to perform title work.
    • Grid Integration:
      • Navigate the interconnection process with utilities, including application submittal with input from the internal engineering team, tracking study due dates and fees, reviewing study results, and coordinating all associated activities through interconnection agreement (IA) signing.
    • Permitting:
      • With the assistance of internal and external resources, research the regulatory landscape, local codes, and site characteristics for potential projects.
      • Develop and implement a local stakeholder outreach plan.
      • As projects mature, lead all permitting processes (zoning, site studies, applicable local, state, and federal permits).
    • Site Design: Collaborate with internal engineers and project managers to ensure project designs are optimized.
  • Engage and manage internal resources and/or third-party consulting firms to assist with development activities.
  • Act as the face of the project, both internally and externally.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Environmental Studies, Planning, Business, or Engineering
  • 3 – 7 years of professional experience, preferably in a project management role
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative and organize work in an independent manner
  • A commitment to fostering positive relationships with colleagues as a roll-up-your sleeves team player
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible and long hours
  • Desire to grow professionally

Annual Base Salary Range:

$80,000 – $110,000

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on certain company and individual performance metrics.

Land Manager

Title:  Land Manager

Location:  Boulder, CO

Reports To:  Director, Development 

Start Date:  Immediately

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Land Manager to bring our vision to life.

The Land Manager works under the general supervision of the Director, Development and will lead the Land Team which is responsible for securing land positions across the United States. The Land Manager will also be responsible for leading all real estate due diligence and title review on both JUWI-developed projects and third-party acquisition opportunities across the United States.  The Land Manager is responsible for managing all land acquisition staff and resources and participating in advanced land acquisition negotiations and contract drafting for various types of land contracts.  The Land Manager will coordinate closely with the Project Development, Business Development, and Legal teams regarding land strategy.  

In this role, you’ll:

  • Have expertise at drafting and negotiating letters of intent, lease/purchase option agreements, rights-of-way and easements, and other commercial documents related to land acquisition or title curative
  • Represent the company in special meetings with landowners that require advanced negotiation skills or understanding
  • Lead all due diligence necessary for real estate transactions, including review of title policies and ALTA surveys, and provide risk assessments for both acquisition and future greenfield opportunities
  • Leverage your experience with surface title, mineral title, and the accommodation doctrine to innovate solutions with owners and solve common problems arising from title reports
  • Proactively remove risk from projects by negotiating contracts with landowners, third party stakeholders, or the title company to cure title deficiencies
  • Lead internal decision-making with recommendations on land opportunities and strategies, including prioritization of outreach efforts accordingly
  • Manage day to day activities and priorities of multiple land team members and external consultants 
  • Define land acquisition goals in coordination with Management, Project Development, and Business Development
  • Maintain and report on the budget established for land acquisition and diligence activities
  • Maintain working relationships with prospective landowners with enthusiasm and accuracy
  • Work with landowners to outline and understand development limits, access, and other site considerations that could affect solar array layout and installation
  • Undertake market research and land valuations to determine fair lease rates
  • Build partnerships with community members and local governments
  • Gain government or regulatory approval for right-of-way easements, access easements, or other issues related to site control
  • Participate as an integral member of the Project Development team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.)
  • 7+ years previous land acquisition experience
  • Prior management experience
  • Superlative oral and written communication skills
  • Public speaking experience
  • Ability to work with diverse landowners in an adaptive and effective manner 
  • Self-starter with ability to operate and succeed in competitive markets
  • Prioritizes internal communication and collaboration
  • Interest and ability to be the face of the company for land acquisitions
  • Excitement for utility-scale solar energy
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the United States
  • Preferred:
    • Law Degree (J.D.) from accredited school or Certified Professional Landman (C.P.L) through AAPL
    • Expert knowledge of land contracts and transactions
    • Demonstrated results negotiating commercial deals
    • General knowledge of Google Earth and GIS systems
    • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel
